Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my doctor before coming to physical therapy?

No! Illinois allows direct access to physical therapy, meaning no referral is necessary to begin physical therapy. Your physical therapist will notify your primary care provider or referring physician that you are receiving physical therapy care after you initial evaluation.

Am I entitled to a Good Faith Estimate?

Starting in 2022, you have the right to receive a “good faith estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers will provide patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance (self-pay) an estimate of the total expected cost of any non-emergency care or patient services.

Are you in-network with insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. This means that we do not directly accept insurance. However, if you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may reimburse you directly for a portion of your services. We will provide you with a Superbill after every session for you to submit to your insurance company. That Superbilil will have all the information you need to get reimbursed.

We recommend that you call your insurance company and ask what your out-of-network physical therapy benefits are, as all insurance policies are different. Most important things to note will be:

  • The percentage of out-of-network coverage you’re eligible for

  • What your out-of-network deductible might be

  • If you’ve paid anything towards your deductible so far this year

What’s the benefit of being out-of-network?

As a traditional in-network provider, you are often at the mercy of insurance companies when it comes to creating the plan of care for your patient. We believe that may limit the ability for you to receive the best care that is most appropriate for your injury. By being out-of-network, we are able to spend 1-on-1 time with each patient for the entire session. Our plan of care is comprised of what treatment is best for you and is not impacted by insurance decisions. Through the most appropriate treatment plan for each patient, we reach better outcomes in less time!

What forms of payment do you accept?

At the end of each sessions, you can pay by credit card, check, cash, FSA or HSA account cards.

If you choose to pay by check, please make checks payable to: GRIT Physical Therapy.
